Welcome to LILAC MANOR.

This album is an amalgamation of different styles that I have fallen in love with over the past year. Late '80s, early '90s sophisti-pop, pop rock, synth-pop, etc. I released BLEACHED back in February of 2018, and it was my first official record in over five years. I'm proud of it, but I also realize its flaws and how scattered the variety of sounds was. This record, while still presenting diversity, is more focused in my opinion.

2018 was the most challenging year of my life. I was diagnosed with a debilitating health condition and struggled in school more than I ever have. My mental health declined as well and I was in a very dark place. I graduated in December with my bachelor's degree, and since I was finally out of school, I had some free time for creative healing, or making music.

I wanted to move into this darker, more moody, atmospheric direction to, perhaps subconsciously, encapsulate that darkness I experienced but also emulate the sounds of my influences for this record with a fresh touch. As you can tell from the lyrical excerpt above, The Blue Nile's 1989 album Hats was a major inspiration for many of the tracks on this album. I have a Spotify playlist specifically with all my influences for LILAC MANOR, which you can check out here: spoti.fi/2BYXTGw

I don't like putting a concise genre label on things because then people come in with an expectation of something similar they've heard before. So I'm not quite sure what you would consider this record to be, but I don't think it matters all too much.

I hope you "catch my drift" on this new release, and I hope you enjoy the new sound. Still striving towards perfection every day, even though I know it's impossible.
